Date set for borough council by-election after death of Keith Savage

Keith Savage, who passed away in December.

A by-election for a councillor to represent the Cote Heath ward on High Peak Borough Council will take place next month.

The seat had been held by Labour councillor Keith Savage, who sadly died in December.

High Peak Borough Council is made up of 43 councillors across 28 wards.

Following the last election in 2019, Labour held 22 of the seats and overall control of the council. The Conservatives had 16 seats, Liberal Democrats three, and the Green Party two.

The by-election takes on more significance because if Labour were to lose the seat, they would no longer have overall control, however they could then form a coalition with another party.

Candidates wishing to stand for election in the Buxton ward - which covers the Harpur Hill and Cote Heath - have until Friday (11 March) to submit their nominations.

They must be delivered to the Returning Officer, Town Hall, Market Place, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 6EL by no later than 4pm on Friday 11th.

The by-election will take place on 7 April 2022.

The next election for the whole council is due to take place in May 2023.
