A busy time for Glossop's heroes on the hills

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team's dedicated volunteers were called upon four times in the space of just two days to help a number of walkers. 

On Wednesday (25 November) at around 3pm, they assisted North West Ambulance Service after a woman sustained a head injury when taking a fall whilst walking near to Wild Bank Trig. 

She was guided by passing walkers and fell runners down the Gallows Clough track, where they were met by a GMRT vehicle. Following a quick assessment by team members and paramedics, she was handed over to a waiting ambulance crew. 

Then, at 5.30pm on the same day, the team were called out again to help two women who became lost whilst walking with their dogs from Snake Summit to the B-29 crash site on Bleaklow. 

With the help of phone finder technology, GMRT found the lost pair just below Dog Rock, Yellow Slacks. Team members were quickly on the scene and escorted the two women with their dogs back down Lightside. The team were stood down at 7.35pm. 

On Thursday (26 November), GMRT were called at 4.55pm to help a couple who had got into difficulty on Gathering Hill above Crooked Clough, following a visit to the B-29 crash site. One of them was understood to be having difficulty in walking. 

They were discovered by phone finder and a fast party was sent in from Snake Summit to find them. 

A man sustained a suspected lower leg fracture and was treated by GMRT members at the scene. A Coastguard helicopter was requested as it was decided he would need such assistance due to the terrain. 

But whilst the rest of the team were making their way to the scene, they received information to say that four other people were lost in the same area following an attempted visit to the B-29 crash site. 

However, GMRT's volunteers were able to quickly find the two men and two women above Crooked Clough. 

Team members from Glossop and Kinder tried to walk the four people back to Snake Summit, but the two women were unable to continue due to medical issues.

The Rescue 936 Coastguard helicopter was on scene to pick up the first casualty, and it was decided also to pick up the two women from the second lost party and take them to Snake Summit. The man with the leg injury was then flown to Stepping Hill Hospital for treatment. 

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team say they were eventually stood down at 9.30pm. 

Meanwhile, GMRT - which receives no direct government funding - is continuing to appeal for donations to help ensure its volunteers can continue to turn out day and night to rescue people in wild and remote places.
