Suspended sentence handed to violent Hyde stalker who turned his victim's life "upside down"

A 55-year-old Hyde man has been handed a suspended sentence after stalking a stranger for 14 months.

Lee Grimsditch, of Carrfield Hyde, was sentenced to an 18 month custodial sentence suspended for 18 months, handed £587 in court costs and also handed a 10 year restraining order against the victim.

It was concluded that his actions were intentional towards an innocent member of the public and the victim's life was "turned upside down" by Grimsditch's behaviour, invoking fear of violence, serious alarm or distress.

PC Mann from Tameside, B Relief Response Unit, said: “This was a case where the victim faced considerable distress and fear from a suspect, who took it upon himself to pursue an act of stranger stalking that completely changed the life of the victim.

"I am pleased today the courts have imposed a strong sentence towards the suspect and I hope this brings some closure for the victim.”

GMP have said they will investigate and bring to justice those who think it is acceptable to cause such distress to innocent members of the public. If you or someone you know is the subject of such behaviour, call GMP on 101.
