Ashton Paint Jam brings top street artists to town

Get ready for a burst of colour and creativity as Ashton prepares to host its first ever Street Art Festival, on Saturday 18 May.

The ‘Ashton Paint Jam’ will be a fantastic and fun one-day event bringing together some of the UK’s top street artists in Ashton, giving everyone the unique opportunity to have a front-row seat to witness the creation of world-class street art. Organised by Art Battle MCR, the event has been fully funded from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) for Communities and Place for the Ashton Creative Improvement District awarded to Tameside Council.

The event promises to be a lively celebration of art, culture, and community.

Curated by internationally renowned street artist Jay Sharples, more than 20 of the UK's top street artists will descend on Ashton to transform the hoardings outside the town hall into a dynamic outdoor art gallery.

The day will also feature live music from local DJs, tantalising treats from independent food sellers, and activities for all ages. Children can unleash their creativity with supervised spray-painting sessions, while thrilling break-dancing and skateboarding performances will provide entertainment for the whole family.

Cllr Vimal Choksi, Executive Member (Towns and Communities), said: "This event has been made possible with the support of UKSPF's funding, which aims to enhance the cultural vibrancy of our town centre, and events like this really showcase Ashton’s creative community and love of creative talent.

“Come join us between 10.30am-5pm as we sprinkle Ashton with creativity, community spirit, and urban culture at the Ashton Paint Jam!”

Jay Sharples added: "We are thrilled to bring the Ashton Paint Jam to life and showcase the incredible talent of street artists from across the UK."
