Friends of the Earth Coalition organises hustings for Mayoral Election

Glossop campaigners have joined with others across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to organise a hastings on April 17th for the Mayoral Election which will take place on May 2nd.

High Peak Green New Deal is part of Friends of the Earth Coalition which has organised meetings with the candidates and published a climate pledge for them to sign, along with a 10 point climate action plan for the East Midlands.

The Plan covers the Coalition’s priorities for protecting people and the planet, including: reducing home energy use, supporting green jobs, radically increasing public transport use and active travel, protecting nature, promoting renewable energy and only using ‘green’ hydrogen from renewable energy sources.

Glossop is on the northernmost tip of the new East Midlands Combined Authority so this election may feel remote to local residents but the new Mayor will have a large budget to control for the area.

"The online hustings on Wednesday 17 April at 7pm will be a great opportunity for people to find out about the candidates" says Linda Walker, coordinator of High Peak Green New Deal, she added: "We hope that many Glossopdale residents will register for the event so they have the chance to hear the views of all the candidates on climate, environmental and social justice issues"

The candidates who have already agreed to take part are: Frank Adlington-Stringer (Green Party), Ben Bradley (Conservative), Matt Relf (Independent) and Claire Ward (Labour). Helen Tamblyn-Saville has recently been announced as the candidate for the Liberal Democrats and it is hoped that she will take part too.

Friends of the Earth will be joined by Fuel Poverty Action, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and the D2N2 Active Travel Alliance in hosting this hustings.

Anyone wanting to attend the hustings can register their place online
