Bad weather warning for parents

Padfield Community Primary School has posted a bad weather warning to parents.

In its latest newsletter, the school explains when snow can force closure and how parents and carers of pupils can hear the news.

Head teacher Anne Moore says every effort is made to keep the Rhodes Street school open. But during heavy falls of snow it has to consider if enough staff can get in to make sure children are safe and supervised.

When a decision is taken to delay opening time or close for the day, the school aims to put a message on its Facebook page by 7am.

Parents are asked not to call school, as all available staff could be outside digging.

On occasions when the school has had to close early due to unexpected heavy snowfalls, parents have been alerted via Facebook.

This will continue and there is a plea to check the school’s Facebook page regularly during adverse weather.

The newsletter also prints a plea for help when the weather gets particularly wintry.

It said: “We welcome any support with clearing pavements outside school. If you are available from about 8am, please come suitably dressed with a shovel in hand.”
