Etsy Cutting Jobs

Etsy is cutting about 225 jobs, or 11% of its workforce, as part of a plan to bring down its costs.

As part of the move several executives will leave the online marketplace, including its chief marketing officer.

Chief executive Josh Silverman told staff the cuts were needed as sales had been "essentially flat" for two years.

He acknowledged the "unfortunate" timing of the cuts, during the holiday season, adding that laid-off staff would be paid until at least 2 January.

Virgin Media Ad Banned

A Virgin Media advert has been banned for misleading customers into thinking the firm offered faster wi-fi than its rivals.

The ad boasted it had the "fastest wi-fi guarantee of any major provider".

Virgin said it found the ruling "slightly baffling", and maintained it guaranteed a faster minimum speed than its competitors.

But the watchdog ruled most customers would understand its wi-fi was faster than others', which was not the case.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) looked into the claim following a complaint from Virgin's competitor Vodafone.

Netflix Released Viewer Data

Netflix has released viewer data on 99% of its catalogue for the first time.

Users around the world watched The Night Agent for 812m hours, making the political thriller its most viewed show in the first half of this year.

The streaming giant has been criticised for not being transparent about how content performs on its platform.

The criticism was central to this year's Hollywood strikes, which paralysed the film and television industry for several months.

Actors and writers have been demanding higher royalties for shows that performed well on streaming platforms.

Almost £100m is forecast to be stolen from thousands of victims this Christmas, High Street banks warn.

Trade body UK Finance, together with Trading Standards, say people need to be on their guard over the festive period.

And scams generated by artificial intelligence (AI) are "enhancing the threat", according to intelligence agency GCHQ.

It says 25 to 34-year-olds are most likely to fall victim.

The National Cyber Security Centre, which is part of GCHQ, is warning that cyber-criminals are using AI to produce more convincing scam emails, fake adverts and websites.
