Tameside's Chief Inspector has a message for the individual that is daubing racist graffiti across Denton: “You are not welcome here.”
Disgusting messages of hate have been left across the area over recent weeks on defibrillators, parked cars and on signposts in Hulmes Wood Nature Reserve.
Now, Tameside Chief Inspector Lee Broadstock has posted a public message to the person leaving these messages, saying: “I have a message today to the individual who is responsible for the vile, racist graffiti that has been spread around Denton.
“Your actions are not welcome here in Tameside.
“In Tameside we have no place for hate.
“I’m asking you, no requesting you, to hand yourself into the police, so we can understand why you did what you did and you can understand the disgust and outrage at what you have caused.
“If you do not hand yourself in, be rest assured that we will find you.
“I have one final request and that is to the community of Denton and Tameside who have shown their outrage at these actions on social media. You know who this is, you know the individual, please tell us.”
The strong statement was echoed by Denton MP Andrew Gwynne, who posted a video on his Facebook page where he deplored the actions of what is believed to be a single person. He said: “Denton is a welcoming and inclusive community. I’m proud to call it home.
“But in recent weeks, the defibrillator in Denton Town Centre, a car on Victoria Street and signposts and benches in Hulmes Wood Nature Reserve have been targeted with sick racist graffiti. It’s all the handiwork of the same individual. The writing style in each incident is identical.
“The perpetrator of the hate-fulled abuse does not represent the overwhelming majority of Dentonians. Their actions are causing hurt and concern, and intentionally so, and they must be stopped.”
Images of the graffiti have attracted widespread criticism across community groups on Facebook, with the community rejecting the individuals message.
