Winter wellbeing help at hand

Tameside Oldham and Glossop (TOG) Mind are launching a brand new 'Winter Wellbeing' service, to help people cope better with Christmas and the winter months.

Residents struggling with their mental health can get immediate access to a mental health worker and have a chat about stress, isolation, money worries or anything else that might affect their wellbeing.

They will be offered support, access to social activities at TOG Mind, as well as signposting to other services they may need - plus a free drink and snack in Topaz Café and Wellbeing Centre, on Katherine Street in Ashton.

Rebecca Stambridge, Winter Wellbeing Project Manager, said: "The festive period can be a happy time but for many, it can have a negative effect on mental health and wellbeing. The winter months can be hard for people as issues such as money, stress, worry and isolation often increase.

"We aim to help people get through the winter months by offering one-to-one support and ensuring people know what’s available at TOG Mind and elsewhere in Tameside."

The Winter Wellbeing Programme sessions are available at Topaz Café and Wellbeing Centre on:

  • Mondays 1pm - 3.30pm
  • Tuesdays 10am - 12.00pm
  • Thursdays 1pm - 3.30pm
  • Fridays 10am - 12pm

Winter Wellbeing visitors can also use vouchers available at the café to get a hot drink and snack.

Anyone who would like to speak to someone about the project or register interest can call the TOG Mind office on 0161 330 9223.

Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind provide an innovative and diverse range of activities and services that promote psychological and physical wellbeing, stimulate recovery and lead to social inclusion within mainstream society for people with mental health issues.
