Willow Wood Wander all set to return

It’s official! Willow Wood Hospice’s Midnight Wander is set to go ahead next month.

The much-loved Midnight Wander, Willow Wood’s biggest and best sponsored walk, is now set to return on Friday, July 23.

Laura Marinelli, the event organiser said: “We’re so happy to be able to confirm that we can all meet up at Dukinfield’s Astley Sports Village before setting off together in one massive pink parade.  Last year we held a virtual Midnight Wander, but we know many of our supporters are looking forward to walking with friends and family, not only to raise funds for the Hospice but to have a great night out at the same time.

“I have to say that I’m really looking forward to it as well.  I joined Willow Wood last year just before the lockdown, and I’ve heard so much about the walks.

“Everyone who has been involved, whether staff, volunteers at the event or those who have taken part, have such fond memories of the Midnight Wanders it really does seem to have been great fun.”

This year the Midnight Wander has an earlier starting time, although everyone should still be out and about at midnight.

Laura explained: “Many people want to join the walk with their families, but starting at midnight meant it was a bit too late for some of the younger children.

“By starting earlier it means that more of our community can join. Other elements stay the same.

“There’ll be a mass warm-up before we start just to make sure everyone is in the mood, and a hot sandwich and a medal will await the walkers on their return.”

Children’s prices start at just £3 while the adult registration fee of £20 includes breakfast, a medal and T shirt, although this year participants can choose whether they would like a pink Midnight Wander T shirt or one of Willow Wood’s Bee T shirts, which come in yellow, black or white.

Pink accessories will of course be worn and there are pink wigs, tutus, leg warmers and more for sale in the Willow Wood reception gift shop.

Laura said: “We’re hoping for a huge turnout this year, I think many of our supporters will be so happy for the chance to have a night out with friends and to know that they’re helping others in their community at the same time.

“The registration fee covers the cost of the event, meaning that every penny of the sponsorship our Midnight Wanderers raise will go directly to patient care”
