Who's been up before the court in Tameside?

A man charged with nine counts of robbery, a jail threat for double assault and a driving ban for over a year have been among the recent cases heard by Tameside Magistrates' Court.

Here's our latest round-up...

Ban to last one and a half years

Daniel Coombs, of Waterhouses Street, Audenshaw, has been banned from the road for 18 months by Tameside magistrates for being over the drink drive limit.

The 36-year-old admitted the offence after being stopped on Audenshaw Road on August 14 this year.

He was found to have 65 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates fined him £230, plus ordered him to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £34.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 18 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

Twice over the drink drive limit

Carla Southern was more than two times over the legal drink drive limit when stopped on St Albans Avenue, Ashton, on July 11, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 38-year-old, of Gambrel Bank Road, Ashton, admitted the offence after being found to have a total of 94 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35.

She was banned from the road for 23 months and fined £150. She must also pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by a period of 18 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

Made offensive call to the police

Tameside magistrates gave Gary Boyd a curfew order for making an offensive call to the police.

The 32-year-old, of Mottram Road, Stalybridge, pleaded guilty to making an offensive emergency call to Greater Manchester Police on July 1 this year.

Magistrates ordered him to remain at his address between the hours of 8pm and 7am each night for six weeks.

He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation.

Jail threat for double assault

Ashton man Jordan O’Brien has been handed a 13 weeks jail sentence, suspended for 12 months.

The 20-year-old, of Lower Green, pleaded guilty to two separate charges of assaulting two emergency workers in Oldham on January 22 last year.

Appearing at Tameside magistrates he was also ordered to pay £150 compensation.

Robber knifed Greggs worker

A man who carried out a spree of terrifying and violent robberies in Tameside and east Manchester has been jailed for 14 years.

Jose Da Silva was sentenced on Friday at Manchester Crown Court after pleading guilty to nine counts of robbery.

Fined £300 for motoring charges

Fiat Punto driver Neil Atkins admitted offences of driving other than in accordance with a licence and without insurance at Tameside magistrates.

The offences happened on Bernard Street in Glossop in February.

He denied a third charge of fraudulently altering a registration plate but was found guilty by the court.

Magistrates fined him a total of £300, plus ordered him to pay £200 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The 59-year-old’s address was given as Barrow More House, Chester

Company fined total of £20,000

Tameside magistrates have fined Marple Polymer Processors Ltd £20,000.

The Marple Bridge-based company pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of its employees.

The charge related back to January 2018.

The firm must also pay £7,269 costs and a £170 victim surcharge.

Failed to pay on Metrolink

Tameside magistrates have slapped dozens of Metrolink passengers with hefty fines for not buying tickets.

None of the offenders appeared in court but will be receiving demands in the post for fines of up to £220.

Offenders will also have to pay court costs of £120 and a victim surcharge of £32.

Parents fined

More parents have been fined for failing to ensure their children regularly attended school.

Tameside magistrates handed out fines of up to £440, plus ordered additional court costs of up to £700 also be paid.

None of the parents appeared before the court.

Out of order

Failing to comply with previous court orders has cost Leonard Collis a £20 fine at Tameside Magistrates’ Court.

The 22-year-old, of Mary Street, Dukinfield, admitted being in breach of the order.
