Who's appeared in court?

From firearms charges and driving bans to stealing credit cards and using abusive language, it's our latest round-up of cases heard by Tameside magistrates.

 

Four men have been charged with conspiracy to supply firearms with intent to endanger life in Manchester following a police swoop in Beswick and Moss Side.

• Zico Reid, 23, of HM Prison Forest Bank has been charged with conspiracy to supply firearms with intent to endanger life.

• Ali Ismail, 28, of HM Prison Forest Bank is charged with conspiracy to supply firearms with intent to endanger life and possession of a bladed article.

• Omar Berryman, 30, of HM Prison Forest Bank is charged with conspiracy to supply firearms with intent to endanger life.

• A 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons has been charged with conspiracy to supply firearms with intent to endanger life.

 

Prolific thief Christopher Rowles has been jailed for 10 weeks by Tameside magistrates for stealing from local stores.

The 31-year-old, of Hickenfield Road, Hyde, targetted the Co-op store on Talbot Road in Hyde and the McColl’s store on Ashton Road in the town.

In all he faced 11 charges relating to thefts from the stores dating back to last July. The most recent had been only last week.

The majority of the incidents were petty thefts although on occasions items taken were valued at up to £100.

Magistrates said the defendant, who pleaded guilty to all 11 charges, had failed to respond to non custodial sentences and so jailed him.

The court also issued him with restraining orders banning him from entering the Co-op or McColl stores.

 

Tameside magistrates have jailed disqualified driver Faizan Aslam for 23 weeks for getting back behind the wheel of a van.

The teenager pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Transit in Ashton on January 12.

He also admitted further offences of driving the same van in Rochdale just two days previously, not having insurance cover and obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty. Magistrates jailed the 19- year-old, of Horsedge Street, Oldham, for a total of 23 weeks for the offences and his previous record of similar offending.

He must also pay a £122 victim surcharge.

 

Callum Taylor denied a series of driving offences when he appeared at Tameside Magistrates’ Court but was found guilty of them all.

He faced charges of failing to provide a specimen when required to do so, not having insurance cover, failing to stop for a police officer when required to do so and driving other than in accordance with his licence.

All of the charges related to an incident on Rose Hill Road, Ashton, on March 22 last year.

But despite the Droylsden man, 21, of Rainbow Avenue, denying all the charges he was found guilty of all four.

Magistrates subsequently banned him from the road for three years and ordered him to carry out 220 hours unpaid work. He must also pay £200 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge. 

 

Eighty-six-year-old David Nolan denied a charge of breaking a restraining order by using abusive language towards an individual, Tameside magistrates were told.

But the court found the Mossley man, of Manchester Road, guilty of the offence which had happened back in April, 2018.

He was given a 12 months conditional discharge, plus must pay court costs of £300 and a victim surcharge of £20.

 

Oliver Mountfield, 32, of Hawthorn Road South, Droylsden, has been ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work by Tameside magistrates for a charge of fraud.

He admitted using a debit card fraudulently in Denton last October. 

He also admitted a charge of theft on the same date from an individual.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay £300 compensation and a £90 victim surcharge.

 

Kyle Fisher, 27, of Penrith Avenue, Ashton, has been banned from the road for 12 months for drug driving.

He was stopped on June 17 last year on Ambleside Avenue and found to be over the legal limit.

He pleaded guilty to the offence, plus a further charge of being in possession of a quantity of cannabis.

Magistrates fined him £120, plus ordered him to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30. The court ordered the cannabis be forfeited and destroyed.

 

A 32-year-old man has been charged with a series of driving offences and receiving stolen goods.

Daniel Logan, of Sandy Haven Walk, Hyde, faces charges of dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

The incident relates to a police chase last Thursday from Haughton Green which ended near Hyde’s Morrisons car park on Mottram Road.

The defendant is due to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on February 10 to face the charges.

 

A woman stopped on the M62 near Oldham on Christmas Eve was more than three times over the drink drive limit, Tameside magistrates heard.

Debbie Bamber was found to have 119 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath as she drove Westbound along the motorway behind the wheel of a Peugeot 206. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

She pleaded guilty to the offence and was banned from driving for three years and ordered to carry out 80 hours unpaid work.

She must pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £90.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by nine months if a driving course is satisfactorily completed.

The 41-year-old’s address was given as Eaton Socon, St Neots.

 

John Conroy, 23, has been banned from the road for 20 months for failing to provide a specimen of breath.

He pleaded guilty to the charge when appearing at Tameside magistrates which related to an incident on November 30 last year.

The court ordered him to carry out 120 hours unpaid work, plus fined him a further £50 for failing to surrender to custody.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by five months if a driving course is satisfactorily completed.

His address was given as care of Chelwood Drive, Droylsden.

 

Tameside magistrates have banned Robert Hall from the road for 18 months for driving while unfit through drink.

The 45-year-old, of Ridgehill Lane, Stalybridge, pleaded guilty to the offence having been stopped on High Street in the town last December 10.

He was fined £170 plus ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

The disqualification can be reduced by five months if a driving course is satisfactorily completed.

 

Ian Pragnall initially denied damaging property at an address in Ashton but later changed his plea to guilty.

Appearing before Tameside magistrates, the court was told the offence had happened last October. 

Magistrates gave the 38-year-old, of Park Street, Ashton, a 12 months conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £21 victim surcharge.

 

Chesney Davis, 26, of Moorfield Avenue, Stalybridge, has been fined £180 by Tameside magistrates.

He admitted driving a car along Stamford Street in Ashton while disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence. He also had no insurance cover.

The offences had happened last December 19 and he admitted both.

Magistrates banned him from the road for a further 28 days plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

 

Aiden Harney pleaded guilty to four driving charges when he appeared before Tameside magistrates.

The 39-year-old, of St John’s Court, Hyde, admitted driving without due care and attention, failing to stop for a police officer, driving without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with his licence.

All of the offences related to June 21 last year. Magistrates fined him £175 and endorsed his driving licence with nine penalty points. He must also pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £30.

 

Callum McHale took a car from Mossley last Boxing Day without the owner’s consent and drove it when over the drink drive limit.

The 21-year-old, of Astley Street, Dukinfield, pleaded guilty to both offences when he appeared before Tameside magistrates. 

He was ordered to carry out 80 hours unpaid work and banned from the road for 12 months, having been found to have 62 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when stopped on Winterford Road in Mossley. The legal limit is 35.

He was ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

 

Rizwan Khan denied assaulting another man when he appeared before Tameside magistrates.

However, the 28-year-old, of Travis Street, Hyde, was found guilty by the court. He did admit causing damage to a car though, with both offences having happened on September 9 last year in Hyde.

Magistrates fined him £100 and ordered him to pay a total of £500 compensation. He must also pay a £90 victim surcharge.

 

Leighton Moreland was over the drug drive limit when he was stopped on June 14 last year, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 23-year-old, of Brendan Drive, Audenshaw, pleaded guilty and was fined £260, plus ordered to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £30. His licence was endorsed with 10 penalty points.

 

Edward Fairbank, 31, of Corn Mill Lane, Stalybridge, has been fined £230 by Tameside magistrates for breaching a previous court order. He must also pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £90.
