Who's appeared before magistrates in Tameside?

A motorist found over the drug drive limit at McDonald's, a disqualified driver found behind the wheel in Hollingworth and a catalytic converter thief are among those who've appeared before magistrates in Tameside of late.

Disqualified driver jailed

Tameside magistrates have jailed disqualified driver Paul Lloyd for a total of 20 weeks after he was found behind the wheel of a car in Hollingworth.

The 44-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence after being stopped on Spring Street driving a BMW car on September 30 this year.

He also pleaded guilty to having no insurance.

Magistrates jailed him for his appalling record for driving while disqualified and breaching previous court orders, the court being told he was already subject to a suspended sentence order for a dangerous driving offence in Glossop in March this year.

The defendant must also pay a victim surcharge of £128. 

His address was given as Bobs Lane, Cadishead.

Drug driver's big 'Mac'stake

A motorist who visited a McDonald’s was found to be over the drug drive limit, Stockport magistrates heard.

Michael Brehaut, 60, pleaded guilty to the charge after being stopped on September 14 this year and found to be over the legal limit.

Magistrates banned him from the road for 17 months and fined him £120, plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 17 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed. 

The offence had happened at the McDonald’s in Bredbury and the defendant’s address was given as Chatham Street, Edgeley.

Curfew order to last four months

Christian Marsland has been given a curfew order by Tameside magistrates for being threatening and abusive towards a police officer. 

The court found the offence to be racially aggravated.

The 49-year-old, of Barley Croft Road, Hyde, pleaded guilty to the charge, relating to an incident on August 17 this year.

He was given a four months curfew order meaning he must remain at his address between the hours of 7pm and 7am each night for the duration of the order.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation plus must pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

He was also issued with a six months community order and must work with a supervising officer or the duration of the order as directed.

Motorist admits offence

Motorist Lee Walsh appeared before Tameside magistrates charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath when suspected of having committed a driving offence in Ashton.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge relating to an incident on August 15 this year.

Magistrates fined him £576 plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £58.

His driving licence was endorsed with 10 penalty points.

His address was given as Hollins Road, Oldham.

Charged with converter theft

Tameside magistrates have fined Kieran Baranow a total of £240 for theft and being at a premises with the intention of stealing.

The 22-year-old admitted stealing two catalytic converters and a socket set tool kit from an individual on September 2 this year.

He also admitted being at Auto Salvage in Robinson Street, Stalybridge, on the same date with the intention to steal. Magistrates also ordered him to pay a £34 victim surcharge.

His address was given as c/o Oak Street, Shaw.

No insurance

Driving through Ashton without insurance cover has cost Daniel Avram £300 at Tameside magistrates.

The 23-year-old was also ordered to pay £90 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge while his driving licence was endorsed with eight penalty points.

The defendant’s address was given as Kingsbridge Road, Oldham.

Over the legal limit 

Peter Roberts was over the drink drive limit when stopped on Church Street in Hadfield, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 61-year-old, of Cross Street, Hadfield, admitted the offence after being found to have 59 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates fined him £500 plus banned him from the road for 16 months.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £50.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 16 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed. 

Too threatening 

David Hopwood, 58, of Tensing Street, Bardsley, has been fined £120 by Tameside magistrates for being threatening and abusive.

The court heard the incident happened in Oldham on March 23 this year.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Covid fines

Dozens more people who broke Covid regulations while Greater Manchester was within the Tier 4 zone have been fined by Tameside Magistrates’ Court.

Fines of £1,760 were demanded of individuals who breached the rules, with associated court costs of a further £266 also having to be paid. The offenders did not appear before the court.

Passengers fined 

Tameside magistrates have fined more Metrolink passengers for failing to pay for their tickets.

Fines of up to £146 were given out with additional associated court costs of more than £150 also having to be paid.

Offenders did not appear in court.
