What you can expect as Denton Carnival returns

A flashback to the 2019 carnival.

This Sunday (12 September) sees the return of Denton Carnival, with a funfair on the Civic Square and entertainment in Victoria Park.

A small organising team have worked hard to ensure the event can go ahead safely after last year’s carnival had to be cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

Sadly there will be no parade on Sunday as there are still concerns over large groups of spectators which would normally gather along the route.

From 11am to 4pm, the park will be buzzing with performances by local dance schools ‘Strictly fit fab fun’ and long-time carnival favourites the legendary Buxton Billerettes.

There will also be music from Denton Brass, children’s rides and go-karts, ice cream, candy floss, balloons, food and gift stalls.

Also back for 2021 is the traditional bowling competition for the Carnival Shield - this year with the theme Bowling for a Healthier Life.

Players need to register at 10.30am for the 11am start. There is a £20 cash prize for the winning pair, £10 for the runners-up.

Lucy Gibson, on behalf of the organisers, is hoping young and old will turn out as they have in the past and make it a great day.

She sees the event as a stepping stone to encourage more people to come forward with fresh ideas and enthusiasm for next year’s carnival.
