We're all in this 'Action' Together

Ashton MP Angela Rayner has visited a Droylsden community hub to meet volunteers who have been supporting vulnerable residents throughout the coronavirus crisis.

Angela met people who have signed up to help with Action Together, which co-ordinates volunteers across Tameside, Oldham and Rochdale.

Since lockdown was introduced in March, Action Together volunteers have helped thousands of people with food parcels, prescription collection and befriending/wellbeing phonecalls to those who are shielding and lonely.

They have also been collecting donations of jigsaws and books to hand out with welfare packages.

Action Together have also worked with other community groups and foodbanks to make sure that collectively, they can cope with the surge in demand for help due to the pandemic.

Angela said: “The past few months have been incredibly difficult for some people, especially those who have been shielding or those with little support.

“It was so wonderful to meet with these incredible volunteers who have given their time to make sure the most vulnerable members of our community are getting the help they need.

“Seeing the way the people of Ashton, Droylsden and Failsworth have pulled together to look after each other makes me so proud to serve these areas as their MP.”

Angela also toured the Tropical Palms group, finding out more too about the Better Days initiative to help cancer patients.
