Vital funding helps keep Hyde church ticking over

A church in Hyde has been able to carry out much-needed repairs and maintenance during lockdown, thanks to funding from The National Lottery.

Hyde Chapel in Gee Cross is saying a "big thank you" to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for the vital funding it applied for and received from its Heritage Emergency Fund "at this very difficult time". 

The School Lane church say the money went towards a number of general running expenses - including safety checks of lightening conductor, fire extinguishers, organ tuning and other equipment maintenance, gardener’s fees for upkeep of grounds, and essential maintenance of trees overhanging highways. 

It also enabled the parish to acquire equipment to get the church ready to reopen, as well as upgrading their CCTV system among other things. 

Patricia Winterbottom from Hyde Chapel said: "The original grant given to us for our organ restoration was wonderful and greatly appreciated. It provided an opportunity for us to create and maintain many links with our village and local and wider community.

"Thank you so much to everyone who supports the National Lottery, keep on buying tickets, all this couldn’t happen without you. Thank you so much."
