Two men have been charged with further offences following a high-speed police chase in Ashton.

Patrick Warde, 19, of Merlewood Avenue, Manchester, is currently remanded in custody charged with aggravated taking without consent and conspiracy to steal.

Lawrence Ward, 22, of Ryder Brow Road, Gorton, is also currently remanded in custody charged with dangerous driving and conspiracy to steal.

They have both been charged with an additional four counts of conspiracy to steal a motor vehicle and obtaining services by deception.

GMP say the additional charges relate to a large number of offences across the Tameside, City of Manchester and Stockport districts, with wider investigations continuing.

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, remains on bail charged with aggravated taking without consent and conspiracy to steal.

At around 1.54pm last Wednesday afternoon (3 November), police received a report of three men in a BMW behaving suspiciously in a car park on Lord Sheldon Way.

The vehicle subsequently left the car park and officers from GMP's Tactical Vehicle Interception Unit were deployed to follow the car. The National Police Air Service was also sent to track the vehicle from above.

Aware that they were being followed, the BMW attempted to flee police and a pursuit ensued with the BMW travelling at around 70mph down Katherine Street before turning onto Thornway Drive and coming to a halt.

The men attempted to decamp the vehicle but were swiftly detained and arrested by officers.

Following a search of the vehicle, 11 Ford keys, an OBD device, key programmer, angle grinder, drill and lock knife were recovered.
