Two children treated by paramedics after fire involving two vehicles

Two children were treated by paramedics after a fire involving two vehicles in Ashton.

Emergency services were called to Union Street on Sunday afternoon (18 October) shortly before 1.30pm.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to Union Street in Ashton at 1.23pm on Sunday (18 October) to reports of an RTC involving two vehicles.

“Crews were quickly on the scene and made both vehicles safe. North West Ambulance Service were also on the scene and treated two children – both were conscious and breathing with no visible injuries.

“Firefighters used a wrench to remove the vehicles from the road and were on the scene for approximately an hour. One fire engine from Stalybridge attended.”

Meanwhile, police also responded to reports of a blaze at a building on Lord Street – close to the junction with Turner Lane.

Nobody was injured but a joint investigation has been launched by the police and fire service.

Part of Turner Lane remains taped off on Monday, while police have also been witnessed in attendance.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 2pm on Sunday 18 October 2020, police were called to reports of a fire at a premises on Turner Lane in Ashton. 

“On arrival, GMFRS officers were tackling two vehicle fires.

“A joint investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire and enquiries are ongoing.

“No-one was injured and no arrests have currently been made.”
