Two Ashton men charged over convenience store robberies

Two men from Ashton have been charged in connection with a series of convenience store robberies.

Marley Stevens, 27, of Smith Grove, has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

Jamal Miah, 23, of Richmond Street, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Both men have been remanded in custody and will appear today (Tuesday) before Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court.

It follows six reported robberies by masked men at convenience stores following the coronavirus lockdown restrictions being implemented on March 23. 

The robberies took place at Denton Mini Market on March 30, Mini Market on Lees Street in Oldham on April 5, Oskars in Stockport on April 6, International Mini Market on Lees Road on April 7, Godley Off Licence in Hyde on April 10 and Victoria Stores in Dukinfield on April 17. 

The following men were previously charged with conspiracy to commit robbery: 

  • Izmamamul Majeed, 22, of Belgrave Road in Oldham 
  • Emran Miah, 19, of Coniston Grove in Ashton
  • Mahdi Abubakar, 22, of Park Street in Ashton 
  • Izmamamul Majeed, 22, of Belgrave Road in Oldham 

All four men remain on remand and will appear at Manchester Crown Court on Friday 29 May.
