Two arrested as police investigate fireworks being thrown in Denton

Two people have been arrested by police investigating large gatherings of youths in and around Market Place in Denton who have allegedly been throwing fireworks.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Denton North East Neighbourhood team say one youth suffered hand injuries from throwing the missiles, while the arrests were "relating to firework incidents".

It follows officers working with local schools to review council CCTV footage and footage from officers' body cameras.

They say that 17 people have so far been identified in being involved in anti-social behaviour, firework offences and breaching coronavirus regulations.

Police add that parents and guardians have been warned that they will receive fines if further breaches are identified, and work to identify other people involved is continuing.

A Facebook post on GMP's Tameside South and West page added: "Notifications have been sent to the parents or guardians of all those identified advising that if further breaches are identified, Fixed Penalty Notices will be issued to the parents for failing to take all practicable steps to ensure their children comply with the current regulations.

"Work will continue to identify others involved and we welcome your assistance in this matter. If you have any information relating to the ongoing antisocial behaviour in Denton please send information to tamesidesouth@gmp.police.uk."

It comes as police in Tameside have been appealing for the community to let them know about the sale of any illegal fireworks as they clamp down on anti-social behaviour. Read more here
