Tournament for veterans

Veterans football teams from across the North West will compete for the Remembrance Day Cup next month.

Held for the second year at the Tameside Stadium, Manchester City Veterans and Burnley Veterans will be competing to take home the silverware, with current holders Curzon hopeful of retaining the trophy.

It takes place on Saturday, November 9, at 1.45pm - directly after the Curzon Ashton v Kettering game at the 4G pitch next to the Tameside Stadium.

Organiser Chris Moulton said: “We’re hoping some people will stick around after the game and watch us.

“It’s a grid tournament and hopefully we can hold onto the trophy.”

The games are seven-a side and will be played in a tournament format with the teams formed entirely out of ex-service personnel.

Chris said: “It’s all about getting the veteran community active and engaging with each other to combat that isolation.”
