Three arrested after huge illegal house party in Stalybridge

Three people were arrested after nearly 50 people attended an illegal house party on a Stalybridge estate last weekend.

Police were initially responding to reports that more than 20 people were at a property on Cypress Oaks on Saturday night (28 November) but it turned out that there were in fact 47 present, Greater Manchester Police's Tameside North and East team said.

Disorder broke out after officers had spent 30 minutes trying to break up the party, which breached the current lockdown rules whereby people cannot meet inside unless they are from the same household bubble.

One man was arrested for assaulting a police officer and public order offences, another was arrested for public order offences, and one male youngster was arrested for assaulting a police officer.

An anti-social behaviour 'closure' notice was put on the property under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act - which prohibits any visitors whatsoever that do not live at the address.

GMP said: "Whilst officers were engaged with this incident, the calls to police grew and genuine victims of crime were kept waiting. This could’ve been avoided if the occupants did their bit and held off on the house party until a more suitable time!"

It was one of two closure notices handed out by police - the other was at another large illegal gathering at an address in Tameside overnight on Saturday into Sunday, but police haven't disclosed details of where it was.

They did however say that "all occupants left without any issues and they dispersed of their own accord".

Tameside, like the rest of England, is under the current national lockdown until Wednesday (2 December), when the borough will return to Tier 3 of the government's strengthened and regionalised tier system - along with the rest of Greater Manchester.
