The return of Hyde Artisan Market

The Tameside Radio team has been out and about in Hyde and Hattersley recently - and listen out for them coming to an area near you soon.

Last Saturday, presenters Dan Ayres and Mark Andrews were joined on air by Andy Richardson from Hyde Past and Present Facebook, who toured Hyde’s Artisan Market to find out what it has to offer following lockdown - and how traders have coped.

It was the first return for the market, held on the Market Square, traditionally run throughout the summer months to draw more crowds into the town.

Andy caught up with Gordon Cooke, whose family has run the iconic market roundabout for 101 years and which has been enjoyed by many thousands of children down the generations.

Gordon explained that he is being kept busy now keeping the roundabout sanitised to ensure it is Covid safe for children to ride on again.

“But it’s great to be back,” he said.

Andy also interviewed stallholders to find out about their stories during lockdown - and their hopes for the future as the Artisan Market returns again each month.

He also spoke with shoppers and the Hyde market management team.

You can join Dan and Mark again on air on Tameside Radio 103.6FM this Saturday and Sunday from 9am.
