Tameside Markets festive calendar revealed

The festive season is drawing closer and there will be a variety of special Christmas events held at markets across the borough.

These events are organised by Tameside Council’s Markets service and will include local produce at food and gift stalls, Harry Potter and Frozen themed events and also a Beauty and the Beast pantomime.

They will also highlight the wealth of options available for people supporting their local town centres this Christmas by shopping locally.

The festive offering in Ashton will use the current market stalls, while the Hyde events will be held at the indoor and outdoor markets.

Cllr Allison Gwynne, Tameside Council Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “These are some fantastic events which have been organised by our markets team and will give a festive feel to the borough. We’re lucky to have a variety of traders at these markets selling local produce you just won’t be able to find online.”

Saturday 30 November

Ashton

Christmas lights switch-on 3pm – 6pm, Ashton Market Hall open until 7pm. Funfair rides in the market square.

A Frozen-themed event will be held in the market square with characters, a marquee, a magical interactive show and craft making workshop. 11am-3pm.

Hyde

Christmas lights switch-on.

Visit Santa in his grotto, Frozen-themed market event with singers and professional entertainment alongside the Saturday market and funfair.

Sunday 1 December

Ashton

Ashton Market Hall will be open for Christmas shopping from 10am-4pm.

Saturday 7 December

Ashton

A Harry Potter-themed market event will be held in the square featuring wizards and their owls, beasts and a large marquee. 11am-3pm.

Hyde

Sunday 8 December

Ashton Market Hall will be open for all Christmas shopping from 10am-4pm.

Tuesday 10 December

Hartshead Hospital

Tameside Hospital Christmas Artisan Market. Ten traders with a range of award-winning produce and unique gifts will be outside Hartshead South main entrance. 9am-2pm.

Saturday 14 December

Ashton

Beauty and the Beast panto, comprising of two showings in the market square at 11am and 2pm.

Market on the Square - independent specialist traders are providing a range of unique Christmas gift ideas alongside the popular Saturday market. 9am-4pm.

Hyde

The Huge Hyde Market Christmas Raffle. With every purchase over £5 customers will be given a receipt to be exchanged for a raffle ticket with a 3pm live draw. Prizes include a Christmas hamper, Xbox with game and a toy box hamper.

Sunday 15 December

Ashton

Ashton Market Hall will be open for Christmas shopping from 10am-4pm.

Saturday 21 December

Ashton

Cake and craft Christmas market between 9am-4pm, ideal for those last minute Christmas gifts and shopping taking place alongside the Saturday outdoor market.

Kid’s Christmas Cooking Club –budding young chefs will cook up a Christmas treat.

Hyde

Ashton Market’s award winning Farmers’ Christmas Market. A great selection of fresh produce direct from the farm, including meats, cheeses, olives, cakes and bread.

Ashton Market Hall will be open for all your Christmas shopping needs from 10am-4pm.
