Tameside charity to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week

A local bereavement support group are inviting the public to two events on Tuesday (15 October) to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Finding Rainbows will first be raising a flag at Tameside Hospital at 12pm, as they will be joined by the midwifery team outside the Hartshead South building.

Natalie Cook, the founder of the charity, asked the Ashton-based hospital if they would be willing to raise a flag in memory of babies all over the world during Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Held every year between 9 and 15 October, it gives bereaved parents, their family and friends the opportunity to unite with others globally to commemorate their baby’s lives, while October is also pregnancy and infancy loss awareness month.

Natalie said: “Finding Rainbows came up with the amazing idea of a flag and Tameside General Hospital team worked in conjunction with us to produce a beautifully designed flag in memory of all the children and babies.”

The group will then be opening the doors of The Church of Nazarene, on Stamford Street Central in Ashton, from 6.30pm on Tuesday, with the lighting of candles taking place at 7pm.

Baby names and poems will be read out and music will be played. The Finding Rainbows team will be on hand for support afterwards.

Drinks and biscuits will also be available.

The charity was founded in 2012 by Tameside mum Natalie, after the death of her two-and-a-half-month-old son Kaiden in May of that year.

Finding Rainbows supports the Tameside community by providing counselling and support to adults and siblings who are trying to cope with the death of an infant or child.
