Tameside businesses invited to attend reverse job fair

Tameside businesses are invited to a pioneering Reverse Job Fair, where local jobseekers have the chance to showcase their skills and experience directly to employers, in a more comfortable environment than a traditional jobs fair.

Organised by Tameside Council’s Routes to Work team, which offer a supported employment service to residents with disabilities, the event on Tuesday 21 June from 2pm to 4pm in the People Place, in Tameside One in Ashton, will be attended by service users of all ages with a strong desire to re-enter the labour market.

Employers will move around the room chatting with Jobseekers who will present their work experience, availability and achievements.

Routes to Work is a supported employment service, which offers advice, support and practical assistance to residents with a disability. This might include a learning disability, autism, mental health illness, physical disability or sensory impairment.

Clients of Routes to Work will continue to receive support from the service after the jobs fair and once they move into employment including understanding expectations of the workplace, supporting with applications and interviews, travel training and on the job support.

Councillor Dave Sweeton, Tameside Council Executive Member for Inclusive Growth, Business and Employment, said: “This event will support businesses with recruitment challenges and showcase local candidates who are available and ready to work.

"Through the Reverse Job Fair, local employers will have the opportunity to meet some fantastic candidates that might have previously found the interview process difficult to navigate. If you’re a Tameside employer, I encourage you to come down to the People Place on 21 June or contact the Routes to Work team to arrange to meet these candidates."
