Suspended jail sentence for Denton man who harassed neighbours for years

A 53-year-old man from Denton has been given a suspended jail sentence after carrying out a "nasty and unpleasant campaign of harassment" on his neighbours and their relatives over several years.

Police said that David Wignall's actions "destroyed the quality of life for numerous people" and still has "long-term impacts on the wellbeing of several of his victims".

Wignall pleaded guilty to two offences of harassment, relating to his behaviour towards fellow residents of Arlington Avenue and their relatives.

At Minshull Street Crown Court last Friday (7 May), Wignall received a five-month jail sentence, suspended for two years.

He was also given an unlimited restraining order, preventing him from contacting his victims.

"This was a particularly nasty and unpleasant campaign of harassment directed by Wignall at his neighbours, which destroyed the quality of life for numerous people," said Greater Manchester Police's Tameside West neighbourhood team.

"Wignall's harassment had and still has long term impacts on the wellbeing of several of his victims. We will not tolerate such behaviour and we will take positive action when we have enough evidence."
