Stamford Park conservatory appeal nears its target

A campaign to raise £10,000 to rescue the historic John Nield Conservatory in Stamford Park is on target to achieve its goal.

We publicised the campaign to raise the funds to help pay to commission experts to investigate the condition of the iconic site, ahead of hopefully receiving an asset transfer from Tameside Council.

Quest Media Network chair Chris Bird also pledged £5,000 to the cause, meaning ‘The Save Stamford Park Conservatory Group’ needed to raise the first £5,000 required. The group is now totting up its fundraising being just a whisper away from achieving that first milestone figure.

The group has been raising the funds via a GoFundMe page and launching an annual membership to the ‘Friends of Stamford Park’ group.

Members are issued with a card and membership number and will be added to a mailing list to stay up to date with all of the group’s latest developments.

In addition, later down the line, ‘Friends’ will be able to play an active part in the development of projects. Membership is £10 and more information is available on their social media pages.

In addition to that, the group has launched a separate raffle.

Group Chair Jane Whittaker said: “We really appreciate everyone’s involvement and we’ve been inundated with people looking to support us. It’s really exciting times.”
