Stalybridge woman charged with biting police officer

A 40-year-old woman from Stalybridge has been charged with biting a police officer in Piccadilly Gardens over the weekend.

Petra Clyde, of Huddersfield Rd, has been charged with Section 39 Assault (common assault), Section 47 assault (actual bodily harm), and obstructing police.

She has been remanded in custody to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Monday morning (24 August).

At around 5.30pm on Saturday (22 August), police were patrolling Piccadilly Gardens when an officer was approached by a member of the public reporting two women being aggressive towards one another.

A female officer attempted to separate the women, but one of the women bit the officer on her arm.

After the woman refused to let go, the officer had to forcibly pull her arm from the woman’s mouth. She was left with a bite injury that required hospital treatment.

A second woman then attempted to prevent the arrest of the first and kicked out at officers.

Both women, both aged 40, were arrested on suspicion of assault of an emergency services worker.

The second woman arrested has been bailed pending further enquiries.
