Stalybridge community hero's Easter campaign off to cracking start

Food bank founder and community hero Steven Barton's Easter egg campaign is well underway.

Steven, who operates Barty’s Food Bank, located at the New Labour Club in Stalybridge, collects Easter eggs to donate to local good causes every year.

This year’s collection is well underway and he is hoping to achieve the target of collecting 10,000 Easter eggs this time around.

All of the eggs are distributed in time for Easter to numerous good causes including local hospitals, the NSPCC, clic Sergeant charity, care homes, schools, women’s centres, old folks’ homes, to the homeless and families in need - in fact - anyone deserving of an Easter egg.

More than 3,000 chocolate eggs have been donated so far, plus toys.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has donated,” said Steven, who received the British Empire Medal last year in recognition of his food bank and community efforts, especially in lockdown.

“It’s been mind-boggling. We were able to help 547 families with our Christmas toys and food campaign last Christmas.

“It’s all about helping the children and homeless people as well for me.

“Even one egg donation will make a real difference to people’s mental health in these times and they all add up,” added Steven. “And I can’t do any of it without you and your generosity, so thank you so much.”

If you would like to make a donation you can take eggs and Easter gifts along to Mellors Bakery Stalybridge, Five A Day in Stalybridge or Barty’s Food Bank.
