Second car thief in Tameside jailed in two weeks

A second car thief has been jailed in the space of two weeks following investigations by police in Tameside.

Joshua Carroll, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to five months in prison at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today (Wednesday), after pleading guilty to a number of vehicle and fraud offences, while some were withdrawn.

The 24-year-old was also ordered to pay £1,640 in compensation.

On Monday, Carroll was charged with 22 offences and remanded in custody, after an in-depth investigation by officers from Greater Manchester Police's Tameside District Tasking Team.

Carroll's offences occurred on February 28, April 11 and April 18 in the Droylsden and Audenshaw areas.

It follows the nine-month prison sentence handed to 32-year-old Oliver Mountfield, from Droylsden, on Friday, April 17, for a spate of offences, including shoplifting and possessing cocaine and a bladed article. Read more here

Sergeant Stephanie O'Brien, of the Tameside District Tasking Team, said: "Following a thorough investigation by officers from my team, I am pleased that another car thief is now off the streets and that his victims can feel reassured that Greater Manchester Police have worked hard to gather all the evidence available to secure this conviction."
