Schoolboy asked to get in van by stranger

Police are investigating after a schoolboy was asked by a stranger to get in his van in Droylsden.

The youngster was walking along Saxon Street at around 7.40am on Monday morning (October 7) when he was shouted by a man in a small grey van.

The man - understood to be wearing a burgundy coat and a bobble hat - asked the child to get in the van but he ran off and the man drove away.

Greater Manchester Police say the boy made it to school safely and he contacted his parents before the incident was reported to them. There was no physical contact or aggression involved.

Officers say they are treating the incident as suspicious and anyone with information is asked to get in touch with them by calling 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
