Round-up: Who has been in court lately?

From a host of banned drivers to a man being found with drugs at a police station, here are some of the people who have gone before Tameside and Stockport magistrates recently.

Drivers banned from the road 

Tameside magistrates have banned a driver from the road for four years.

Stephen Burns, 36, of Granville Road, Audenshaw, admitted a charge of drug driving on December 27 last year, plus a separate charge of drug driving on November 11.

He was fined a total of £240, plus ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £32.

Magistrates disqualified him from driving for a total of 48 months stating the ban was obligatory for the offence.

 

Other drivers to have been banned from the road for drink or drug driving offences include:

• Tameside magistrates have disqualified a woman from driving for three years for being more than twice over the legal drink drive limit.

Leeanda Powell, 47, of Broadbottom Road, Mottram, pleaded guilty to the offence after being stopped in Hattersley on July 10 and found to have 77 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

She was fined £350 plus must pay £85 court costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

 

• A driver who motored through Droylsden while more than three times over the drink drive limit has been fined £250.

Manchester man Frances Collins was also banned from the road for two years by Tameside magistrates.

The court heard the 65-year-old, of North Road, was found to have 113 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He admitted the offence, which had happened on Sunnyside Road on September 13.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 24 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

 

• Motoring through Ashton when over the drink drive limit has cost Manchester man Steven Coyne his driving licence for 17 months.

The 65-year-old, of Houghton Road, Manchester, admitted the offence after being stopped on July 3 on Manchester Road, Ashton, and found to have 63 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Tameside magistrates fined him £120, plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £34.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 17 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

 

• Driving in Tameside Hospital’s multi-storey car park when over the drink drive limit has cost Steven Meehan his driving licence.

Appearing at Tameside magistrates, the 58-year-old, of Mottram Road, Hyde, admitted the offence and was banned from the road for two years.

Magistrates heard the offence had happened on February 29 when he was found to have 229 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

The legal limit is 80.

Magistrates ordered him to carry out 40 hours unpaid work plus pay £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 24 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

 

• Twenty-nine-year-old Adam Gill was more than twice over the drink drive limit when stopped in Droylsden, Tameside magistrates heard.

The Droylsden man, of Old Mill Wharf, was found to have 76 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when stopped on Market Street in the town. The legal limit is 35.

He pleaded guilty to the offence which had happened on July 4.

Magistrates fined him £576 plus ordered him to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £57.

He was banned from the road for 18 months, although the disqualification can be reduced by 18 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

 

• Teenager Luke Parry has been banned from the road for 12 months by Tameside magistrates for being over the legal drug drive level.

He admitted the offence which had happened on Circular Road, Denton, on January 27 this year.

The 19-year-old, of St Lawrence Road, Denton, was fined £120, plus must pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £32.

 

• Driving over the drug drive limit has cost Craig Atkinson a fine of £323 at Tameside Magistrates’ Court.

He was also banned from the road for 12 months and must pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £34.

The 33-year-old, of Mill Lane, Denton, admitted the offence which had happened on Worcester Avenue, Denton, on May 11 this year.

 

• Jacqueline Pomfret, 28, of Lee Dale Close, Denton, has been disqualified from driving for one year by Tameside magistrates for being over the drug drive limit.

She pleaded guilty to the offence which had happened on May 18 this year and was fined £250, plus ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

 

• Tameside magistrates have banned Zoe Hurley from the road for 12 months for an offence of drink driving.

The 29-year-old, of Newton Street, Hyde, pleaded guilty to the offence after being stopped on Audenshaw Road, Audenshaw, on September 18 this year and found to have 54 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

She was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £120, plus ordered to pay court costs of £45 and a victim surcharge of £34.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by three months if a driving course is satisfactorily completed.

 

• Brandon Applegate has lost his driving licence for 12 months for a charge of drug driving.

The 22-year-old, of Ladysmith Road, Ashton, pleaded guilty to the charge after Stockport magistrates heard he had been stopped on October 28 last year on Canterbury Street in the town.

He was fined £120 and was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £32.

 

• Andrew Staniforth pleaded guilty to a charge of drug driving when he appeared before Tameside magistrates.

The 32-year-old, of Carrfield, Hyde, was stopped on the M60 near Ashton on March 10 and found to be over the legal drug drive limit.

Magistrates banned him from the road for 12 months, fined him £120, plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £32.

 

Jailed for theft of high value items

Stockport magistrates have jailed a man found in Ashton with a quantity of drugs.

Alexis Coulibaly, 29, of no fixed address, admitted the offence after being found in possession of a quantity of cannabis just last week on October 13 in the town.

He also pleaded guilty to charges of stealing a Citizen Ecodrive Watch worth £499 from H Samuel in Stockport and items worth £100 from Superdrug in Stockport on the same date.

Magistrates jailed him for a total of eight weeks, stating the goods taken were of high value.

He must pay a victim surcharge of £128.

 

Motorist was disqualified

Barry Green, 47, of Whitworth Close, Ashton, has been given a curfew order by Tameside magistrates for driving while disqualified other than in accordance with his licence.

He admitted the offence which had happened on Bottany Lane, Ashton, on September 4.

He was ordered to remain at his address for eight weeks between the hours of 8pm and 8am each night, plus pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £85.

His licence was endorsed with six penalty points.

 

£300 pay-out for broken windows

Magistrates have ordered Daniel Buchanan to pay £300 compensation for damaging windows at a property.

The 34-year-old, of Springs Lane, Stalybridge, pleaded guilty to the offence which had happened in Hyde on August 1 this year.

Appearing at Stockport Magistrates’ Court he was given an 18 months conditional discharge and a restraining order, banning him from an address in Hyde and from having any contact with the complainant.

He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £22 victim surcharge.

 

Found with drugs at police station

Mark McMamara was found in possession of a quantity of cocaine at Ashton police station and given a six months conditional discharge by Stockport magistrates.

The 28-year-old, of Higher Lime Road, Oldham, pleaded guilty to the charge which happened on April 24 and was also ordered to pay a £22 victim surcharge.

Magistrates ordered the cocaine be forfeited and destroyed.

 

Too little care 

Driving without due care and attention in Ashton landed Ashan Zuhab before Tameside magistrates.

The 20-year-old, of Clifton Grove, Old Trafford, admitted the offence which had happened on June 27 on Stamford Street Central.

He also admitted not having relevant insurance cover.

Magistrates fined him £120, plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £34.

His driving licence was endorsed with eight penalty points.

 

Stay home order

Ashton man Jack Fielding has been handed a curfew order by Tameside magistrates for the theft of alcohol from a Tesco Express store in the town.

He pleaded guilty to taking the booze on July 13.

The court ordered him to remain at his Tree House Avenue address for six weeks between the hours of 7pm to 5am each night.

The 26-year-old must pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £95.

 

Car battery charge

David Killoran originally denied stealing an engine battery from Hyde Motor Co Ltd back in April last year, Tameside magistrates heard.

But the 39-year-old, of Carrgate Road, Denton, later changed his plea to guilty and was given a six months conditional discharge by the court.

He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation, court costs of £105 plus a victim surcharge of £20.

 

In possession 

Tameside magistrates have fined Callum Anderson £120 for being in possession of the class A controlled drug MDMA.

He pleaded guilty to the offence which was discovered on April 4 last year.

The 27-year-old, of Chelwood Drive, Droylsden, must also pay £85 court costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

 

Unpaid work

A Denton man must carry out 150 hours unpaid work for assaulting two police officers.

Tameside magistrates heard Christopher Gibson assaulted both officers on March 3 this year. He had also damaged an earpiece belonging to GMP on the same date.

The 34-year-old, of George Street, pleaded guilty to all three charges and was ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

 

Motorist banned 

Stalybridge driver Reece Woodward has been banned from the road for being more than twice over the drink drive limit.

The 32-year-old, of Bank Road, admitted the offence after being stopped on Manchester Road in Mossley, on September 13 this year and found to have 73 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeded the legal limit of 35.

He also admitted a further charge of driving without insurance cover. He was fined a total of £240, plus ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £34.

Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 20 months, although the disqualification can be reduced by 20 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

 

Driving ban 

Dukinfield driver Peter Brown was more than twice over the drink drive limit, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 62-year-old, of Thorncliffe Avenue, Dukinfield, pleaded guilty to the offence after being stopped on July 9 this year and found to have 76 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 17 months and fined him £120.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £34.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 17 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

 

Breaking court orders 

Breaching previous court orders has cost Mohammed Zaman a fine of £50 at Tameside magistrates.

The 37-year-old, of Alderley Terrace, Dukinfield, admitted being in breach of the order and must also pay court costs of £60.

In a separate case, the court fined him £40 for interfering with a motor vehicle with a view to theft.

He pleaded guilty to the offence relating to an incident in Ashton on June 1 this year and must also pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

 

Smashed windows

A man who smashed windows at a property in Dukinfield has been given an 18 months conditional discharge by Tameside magistrates.

Mark Silverstone, 39, of King Street, Dukinfield, pleaded guilty to damaging windows belonging to Support Living, located on King Street in the town.

The court ordered him to pay £350 compensation, plus £85 court costs and a £22 victim surcharge.
