Residents set up shop in top Mossley

A group of kind-hearted Mossley residents have set up shop in the town.

Caring staff and volunteers from the former Age UK shop in top Mossley have got together to open up a charity shop with all profits being ploughed back into the community.

Mossley Community Shop opened last week with a variety of second-hand goods and a small range of pet supplies on sale.

The shop also sells new cleaning products, toiletries, handbags and purses.

Mandi Cunningham from the shop said: “The idea for the shop came when we were told the Age UK shop was going to be closed.

“Staff and volunteers wanted to keep it going so we formed a not-for-profit company.

“We have had a lot of help from Mossley people to get it up and running.

“Any profit will be made available each year for any organisation in Mossley to bid for and the board and directors will decide.

“We have tried to bring what we think is needed, second-hand goods as before, but also a small range of pet supplies as our local pet shop has closed.

“It was an idea we came up with as a group of staff and volunteers that were working together before we were closed.”

The community shop, which has two part-time staff and five volunteers, is on Stockport Road and is open Monday-Friday 9am-4pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.
