'Remarkable achievements' as theatre groups ensure show goes on in Hyde

Tameside Youth Drama and Show Stoppers ‘took’ to the stage at the Hyde Festival Theatre over these last two weekends with their cinematic musical productions.

These were certainly shows of our Covid times, film productions rather than live shows.

But although ‘movies’ they were nonetheless highly entertaining, expertly and crisply edited by Phil Steels (JHC Video Services) to provide  great entertainment for theatre-starved audiences  plus  a platform for some very talented members of both groups.

The first weekend was dedicated to Tameside Youth Drama Group.

With very limited rehearsal time they took to the stage at Hyde Festival Theatre to be filmed performing their excerpts from the musicals - all abiding to current Covid rules at the time. The youngsters blasted out hits from School of Rock, Mamma Mia, Oliver and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in a musical medley entitled ‘It’s Time to Shine’.

The traditional Reporter Awards for best performers went to the talented Katie Wilkins (senior winner) and Harry Melling (junior winner).

Show Stoppers - a theatrical group for all ages meeting in Audenshaw - saw actors from six to 60 taking to the Hyde Festival Theatre stage also to film a selection of musical productions.

Again filmed within tight Covid restrictions, this saw the adult ‘bubble’ of six having to rehearse - as well as sing in the rain!

They ‘staged’ excerpts from The Lion King, High School Musical, Chicago, Blood Brothers, Annie and Shrek.

Both shows were remarkable achievements considering the restrictions and full credit must go to all involved.
