Rainbows leader recognised with award from MP

Denton MP Andrew Gwynne has presented another Citizen's Award - this time to Elizabeth Franks of 6th Debdale Rainbows for her incredible efforts over the course of the pandemic.

Gwynne attended the ceremony with Denton West Councillor George Jones, and celebrated the work of Rainbows leader Elizabeth.

When GirlGuiding UK suspended all meetings, Elizabeth moved the meetings online.

She also hand-delivered packs to the girls' homes so that they had everything they needed for the meetings. She did this to try and maintain a sense of normality for the girls, and to ensure that they could still earn their badges.

The MP's Citizen's Awards have become a favourite in the local community and since their inception over 75 awards have been given to residents across Denton and Reddish who have gone above and beyond in their local community.

Commenting on Elizabeth's award, MP Gwynne said: "Elizabeth is a real star. When the pandemic flipped the world on its head, Elizabeth stepped up and maintained a vital sense of normality for the girls at 6th Debdale Rainbows.

"It was great to visit Elizabeth with Councillor George Jones and celebrate her tremendous impact on the local community. Well done Elizabeth!"
