Pensioner among five people assaulted in Hyde

A man has been arrested after five people - including an elderly man - were attacked in Hyde.

Emergency services were called to Oldham Street shortly before 2pm on Tuesday afternoon (30 November).

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to reports of ‘a disturbance’.

The road was closed off for a period, with a police cordon in place whilst investigative work was carried out.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly before 2pm to a report of a disturbance on Oldham Street, Hyde.

"A man is understood to have assaulted a man in his 70s with a bottle before making off from the scene.

"The victim was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening head injuries, and remains there in a stable condition.

“Four other people are then also believed to have been assaulted - including a woman threatened near a motorway bridge - and weren't seriously injured but were all left understandably shaken.

“A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault, section 39 assault and section 47 assault.

“Detectives aren’t looking for anyone further at this time.”
