Man dies in serious collision

A man has died following a serious collision involving a lorry on a main road in Openshaw this afternoon (Tuesday).

The man, who is understood to have been a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision with a heavy goods vehicle on Ashton Old Road at around 4pm. 

No details have yet been released about the identity of the man. 

No arrests have been made, police have said. 

A statement by Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 4pm on Tuesday 1 October 2019, police were called to reports of a collision on Ashton Old Road, Manchester involving a man and a HGV.

“The pedestrian was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“A number of road closures are in place as enquires are being carried out and commuters are advised to avoid the area where possible.

“No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.”
