Parishioners go the extra mile for church funds

It has been a busy summer so far for parishioners in Mossley.

Church-goers have been raising funds after their annual summer fair was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They have set up a challenge called the Summer-12 - because it’s a 12-mile walk around the perimeter of the parish.

So far the Vicar of Mossley Father David Warner has walked 12 miles with his dog Buddy, parishioner Charlotte Mellor hula-hooped for 12 minutes, Brown Owl Kathryn Malkin has been baking cakes to raise funds for St George’s Church and also her Rainbow unit in the town and Associate Priest Father Ian Brocklehurst has walked around St George’s churchyard 12 times.

Father Ian (pictured below) is also selling postcards with pictures of St John’s and St George’s Churches on them.

He said: “As we were unable to hold our Summer Fair, the Parish of Mossley has been running a Summer-12 fundraising campaign.

“As part of this, myself and my wife Liz designed a postcard with photographs of the interior of St John the Baptist Roughtown and St George’s Mossley.

“They are for sale in packs of 12 (naturally!) for £2.50.”

Packs can be collected from the back of church or you can email Father Ian at iancb53@btinternet.com
