Onward and upward as 2,000 trees go in

Onward Homes has joined forces with local schools and community groups to plant more than 2,000 trees across Hattersley, Mottram, and Hyde.

Nine events are to be held in total, including the latest planting session which was held at Discovery Academy in Hyde.

There children aged four to five-years-old were joined by Onward Homes, to dig-in and plant a selection of fruit, Alder, Birch and Willow trees.

The spruces had all been donated by contractors Continental Landscapes Ltd. The planting sessions aimed to teach the children the value of trees whilst promoting the green value of planting trees to help the environment and climate change.

Others who supported the planting initiative included Arundale Primary School, Kiddi Daycare Nursery, Pinfold Primary School and Hattersley Community Garden who have all held events locally.

Their efforts will now mean they have wonderful spaces to enjoy, and as the trees take root, they will create a haven for wildlife.

Ian Hulme, Arboriculture Manager and organiser of the event, said: “We would like to thank the schools and the efforts and enthusiasm of the children who took part. The day was hugely successful and we look forward to more events in the near future.”
