'Oldest' mums and tots group celebrates 30th anniversary

What’s believed to be the oldest mums and tots group in the area has celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Parents and children, both past and present, reunited at the Dream Centre Church on King Street in Droylsden to commemorate their 30th birthday.

It was founded by three ladies: Jane Little, Joyce Siddall and Carol Higginson, who all still help out to this day. More ladies have joined over the years to help keep the children entertained and fed.

Carol explained: “We started it because we had quite a few babies in the church and wanted to do something for the ladies. We have tea, biscuits, toast and all the kids get a drink.”

The group is still running twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9am and 11.30am. The children also produce seasonal work around holidays and festivals such as mothers and fathers day.

It’s been as much a community for the adults as the children and the group is so well regarded that the children of the children they originally looked after now attend the club.

The club is so well thought of in the community, a group of ladies from the Tea Cup Cafe baked a cake for all attending to enjoy.
