In 1983, the community was quick to rally round following a devastating fire which ripped through Droylsden Youth Centre on Lewis Road.
More than 60 helpers and parents turned up for an emergency meeting to launch a disaster fund.
Youth leader and founder of the centre Alan Bradbury was cheered by the show of support while under no illusion as to the enormous challenge which lay ahead.
Alan, who had been associated with the centre for the past 20 years, was hoping to attract financial support from local firms and through fundraising.
Speaking to the Reporter, he admitted that a huge effort would be needed to get the centre up and running again.
