Nostalgia: Students help older folk to tune in

Back in 1986, kind-hearted youngsters put their best feet forward to cheer up elderly residents of Rufford Avenue in Hyde.

The group from Hyde High School had been looking for a worthy cause to support as part of a business enterprise challenge when they heard the old folk desperately needed a communal radio cassette player.

For their ‘Sponsorwalk’ venture ‘managing director’ Neil Webster and his fellow students braved appalling weather to trek around Hyde, Matley and Mottram.

Accountant Richard Stanton totted up the takings and company secretary Scott Ellinson arranged the presentation.
