Back in 1996, rapturous applause greeted students from the Susan Everton School of Dance following their first ever performance at Tameside Hippodrome.
Spotlight, Smiles and Sparkles saw children as young as three make their stage debut with a series of lively routines from Jungle Groove to Davy Crockett and the Musical Clowns.
Senior students stepped into the spotlight with a slick New York, New York performance.
The wide-ranging repertoire included big screen favourites Batman, James Bond and Bjork’s quirky chart hit It’s Oh So Quiet.
In all, 160 dancers of all ages appeared on stage in a spectacular show featuring more than 800 costumes specially designed by associate teacher and third year Manchester fashion student Dawn Healey.
Susan Everton who grew up in Lees Road, Mossley, was proud of the ‘happy atmosphere’ that they had created.
“This is the eighth show I’ve done but never anything on this scale,” she said.
Future plans for Susan included finishing her teaching exams and taking on more pupils.
Meanwhile she agreed to stage a special repeat performance at the Hippodrome in March in aid of Oakdale School which was about to move from Ashton to a new building on Yew Tree Lane, Dukinfield.
