Nostalgia: Show time in Ashton

Joan Burgess of Mossley with the Merry Mice cakes which won the domestic class best exhibit award.

With a record number of entries, Ashton West End Allotments and Gardeners’ Association annual show was the best for many years.

The number of entries in the members and open classes had seen a significant increase. Despite a very dry spring and summer, the vegetable classes saw a magnificent array of produce.

The standard of exhibits was hailed as a credit to everyone involved. The lack of rain also failed to dampen the quality of the plants and flowers.

Pupils at St Ann’s School, Burlington Street, where the show was held also earned praise for their colourful posters and miniature gardens.
