NHS heroes to take to the pitch to raise funds for scanner appeal

A football match and family fun day to raise money for the Tameside Hospital scanner appeal will take place this month.

Organised by local fundraising hero Jon Adams, the game will see NHS staff participating in a football match in the hope of raising much-needed funds for the Tameside Hospital scanner.

The hospital began their efforts to raise money towards the £1m state-of-the-art equipment in 2019, but fundraisers were halted due to the pandemic.

Jon Adams worked as a porter at the hospital for six years and says he knows just how important the appeal for a CT scanner is.

Realising this, he contacted friends from the hospital to organise a charity fun day alongside the football match.

The team from Jon’s Charity Raffle will face members of NHS staff in a game of football at Avro FC on September 19.

The day will also see face painting, magic acts and mascots as well as raffle prizes and a live auction, making it a perfect day out for all the family.

Everyone is welcome to go along to the event, with free entry and a donation bucket for those who would like to contribute.

Jon is set to play for the first half but will then come off the pitch to raffle and auction some grand prizes.

During half-time, a penalty shoot-out is set to take place for the children, with the opportunity to win a console available.

Jon is also appealing for any local businesses to donate additional prizes.

“For us it’s just about getting as many people down as possible. While I was working at the hospital, we took part in some fundraising for the scanner appeal, so I know how important it is.

“We have players for  the game with a team made up of NHS staff which makes it more special,” he says.

As recently reported, Jon has opened a special charity shop - Jon’s Charity Raffle and Memorabilia - which can be found at Unit 9, Greenside Trading Centre, Greenside Lane, Droylsden, M43 7AJ.
