New year tips for staying healthy

Wendy Hobin from Natural Health in Hyde Market knows a thing or two about how we can stay healthy. She has been advising customers on a range of products for many years and we are delighted to have her share some of her tips with our readers at the start of 2021...

At Natural Health we have a range of traditional, herbal remedies which help the body to fight the symptoms of colds, flu and viruses in these colder months.

Bee Health Propolis is a substance collected by bees and originates from the resin of trees containing essential oils, waxes and bioflavonoids. Its extracts have numerous applications in treating various diseases due to its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antimycotic, antifungal, antiulcer, anticancer, and immunomodulatory properties. You can get this as a throat spray, winter mixture you can take daily, liquid capsules and sweets.

Vogel Echinacea is an award-winning supplement made from fresh Echinacea and is beneficial in reducing symptoms of colds and flu. Recently they have launched an Echinacea and Elderberry drink which would be ideal taken with honey, perfect to help you get a good night’s sleep.

Did you know that seven million people are deficient in vitamin D3? This is usually caused if you are deprived of sunlight and people most at risk are those 65 and over, those who work nights, live in high rise flats and those with darker skin who have less ability to absorb D3 from the sun. Pharmanord D3 is the most researched of the supplements and recently featured on BBC TV to look at the benefits for the immune system, bones, teeth and general health.

A beneficial supplement for the lungs and to keep your mucus healthy is Lungforte which I recommend for the respiratory tract. For that reason, it’s a particularly recommended supplement for smokers.

Allicin Max is nature’s antibiotic and another well researched supplement which is the active ingredient that comes from garlic when you break it. A method was found to capture that ingredient and make it available in various options including tablets, gel and cream. The gel is great if you have any problems in the mouth, dental problems, mouth ulcers or sore gums. Use it with a few drops in the mouth at night before you sleep. The cream is very good for those with skin problems like eczema, psoriasis, even those with fungal infections on areas like your feet. Another product related to this is Lesterol which helps to maintain a healthy cholesterol level. Lesterol also supports the natural immune system and helps maintain cardiovascular fitness.

Finally, CoQ10 supplements are now routinely recommended to people on statins, which has the effect of depleting the body’s natural production of it. Older people are also encouraged to take CoQ10 because the body’s production of it declines with age.
