New home needed for 8ft cactus

An elderly couple from Stalybridge are appealing for someone to take a prickly houseguest off their hands.

Leonard and Renee Stewart have been the guardians on an 8 foot tall cactus for the past 30 years, but are now looking for someone else to take on the impressive specimen due to their advancing age.

The pair are looking to rehome the cactus, which would need to be collected from their home in Stalybridge and loaded into suitable transport.

Leonard explained: “It’s a long story, an old fella who was going in a home had about 4 of them.

“I worked for British Gas at the time and he asked if I could take one in my van because they had to go.

“I put one in the van and brought it home. We’ve had it quite a while and it’s just come here with us.

“It just grew and grew.”

The cactus is a Echinopsis pachanoi, more commonly known as the San Pedro Cactus. It is native to the Andes mountain range and usually grows between 6,000 and 10,000 feet above sea level.

The cactus flowers throughout the year, producing beautiful buds and a pleasant floral aroma.

Being a cactus, it requires little upkeep, with some light watering every few months enough to keep it going.

With the cactus now standing at such a height, the couple want to move it onto a new home. If you think you can rehome the impressive plant, contact 0161 379 0250 or use the contact us form on our website at https://www.questmedianetwork.co.uk/contact-us/
