MP Rayner takes on Boris Johnson at PMQs

Ashton-under-Lyne and Failsworth MP Angela Rayner took on Boris Johnson at Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday afternoon.

The deputy leader of the Labour Party was standing in for leader Sir Keir Starmer, who is currently self isolating after testing positive for Covid-19 last week.

At the despatch box in the House of Commons in London, Ms Rayner quizzed the PM on MPs' standards rules and political corruption, projected tax increases for households over the next five years, and support for servicemen and women and Army veterans.

Ms Rayner returned to work this week following bereavement leave and after being sent threatening and abusive emails.

It was only the third time that she has taken part in PMQs, after becoming the first ever Tameside MP to be involved in the set-piece of the Parliamentary week in September 2020 when she faced Mr Johnson

Ms Rayner also took on Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab back in September, which included some lively clashes over cost of living rises.
