Motown theme for Tameside Civic Mayor's charity ball

The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Janet Cooper.

The Civic Mayor of Tameside's spring charity ball may be taking place in Dukinfield but the music will be made in Detroit.

Motown fan Councillor Janet Cooper is hoping people will come from far and wide to attend the event, which takes place at the town hall on Saturday 26 March.

All proceeds will be donated to the Mayor's Charity Appeal Fund, which this year supports Cascade Baby Bundles, the Friends of Tameside Young Carers, the Tameside Scanner Appeal and Tameside 4 Good.

Cllr Cooper said: “After the trials of the last two years, when Covid meant we were unable to host a ball, it’ll be great to have the event back, let our hair down and have a good time while supporting some very good causes that are close to my heart.

“Everyone’s welcome. I hope it’s a sell-out night and we make lots of money for my charity appeal.”

The evening starts with a drinks reception at 6.45pm.

The formal dinner is at 7.15pm, followed by dancing and entertainment from highly-rated soul singer Michelle Lawson, winner of the first Trevor Nelson BBC Urban Music award.

Tables for eight people are available at a cost of £320. Individual tickets are £40 each. Dress is dinner jacket or lounge suit.
